Scientific & Ethical Review
All studies using THIN Data must receive scientific or ethical approval to publish or broadcast results into the public domain. IMS Health Real World Evidence Solutions can provide support to obtain scientific or ethical approval as appropriate.
Incorporation of Hospital Episode Statistics data into THIN does not change the level of approval necessary for a study.
If research requires validation (such as GP questionnaires, hospital discharge notes etc) it will be necessary to receive prior approval from the Scientific Review Committee (SRC).
Researchers wishing to collect additional information from patients (through patient questionnaires etc) will need to seek approval from a Research Ethics Committee (REC). IMS Health Real World Evidence Solutions can help with the submission process.
